After months of speculations, actors Varun Tej Konidela and Lavanya Tripathi announced on Thursday that they will be getting engaged on June 9. The couple joins Srikanth-Ooha, Nagarjuna-Amala, Mahesh Babu-Namrata Shirodkar and Aadhi Pinnisetty-Nikki Galrani in the list of Tollywood actor couples.

Varun Tej and Lavanya worked together in the 2018 science fiction drama film Antariksham 9000 KMPH, in which they played romantic leads. The film is directed by Sankalp Reddy, who has recently helmed the Bollywood film IB72. Though the timeline of Varun's and Lavanya's relationship is not clear, the presence of the latter at Varun's younger sister—actor Niharika Konidela's wedding in December 2020, raised strong assumptions of the two being in a relationship.

Varun Tej, who was last seen in the sports drama Ghani and the comedy film F2 alongside Venkatesh Daggubati, will be appearing next in Praveen Sattaru's Gandheevadhari Arjuna opposite Sakshi Vaidya. The film will be hitting theatres on August 25. Lavanya Tripathi was last seen in the hyperlink, new-age comedy feature Happy Birthday in 2022, which was followed by a lead role in Puli Meka, a ZEE5 original procedural crime drama series.
