Popcorn, a romantic comedy starring Uyyala Jampala (2013) fame actress Avika Gor and Sai Ronak has been cleared by the censors with a U/A certificate. The film is set to release in theatres on February 10. Popcorn is a chamber film about Sameerana and Pawan, who fall in love while getting stuck in a lift together at a shopping mall where a bomb blast occurs. 

Incidentally, Popcorn is Avika’s debut film as a producer under the banner of Avika Screen Creations. The film is also co-produced by Bhogendra Gupta of Acharya Creations, who has earlier produced films like Napoleon (2017) and Ma Oori Polimera (2021). MS Chalapathi Raju and Seshubabu Peddinti also share producing credits with Gor and Gupta. 

The film’s trailer was launched recently by actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, where he congratulated Avika Gor for starting her own production house and called her a ‘Pan-World star’, referring to the popularity of her TV serial Balika Vadhu (2008-16) in countries like Vietnam and Afghanistan. Balika Vadhu has also enjoyed great success in the Telugu states, where the series was dubbed and broadcast on Maa TV as Chinnari Pellikuthuru. 

Popcorn is written and directed by Murali Gandham, with music composed by Sravan Bharadwaj. MN Bal Reddy serves as the film’s cinematographer, with editing provided by KSR and production design by Bhaskar Mudavath.
