Sri Venkateswara Creations have announced that they would be postponing the release of their film Shaakuntalam in order to better work on the 3D effects. The makers had earlier announced that the Telugu period romance drama would be released on 4 November. A tweet from the official Twitter account of the production company stated that they have decided to release the film in 3D and would therefore require more time to work on converting the film to the desired format.

Gunasekhar, who has won the National Film Award for directing the 1997 film Ramayanam, is helming the project. Shaakuntalam is based on the play Shakuntala written by 4th century Sanskrit poet Kalidas. The film stars Samantha as Shakuntala while Dev Mohan plays the king of the Puru Dynasty, Dushyanta. The ensemble cast of the film also includes Mohan Babu, Gautami, Aditi Balan, Prakash Raj, Madhoo, and Ananya Nagalla in supporting roles.

Apart from the original Telugu version, the film will also be simultaneously dubbed into Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. The makers of the film are yet to announce a new release date for the film.
