Karthik Subbaraj's latest film Dorothy has been earning much appreciation from critics and film fraternity members since its recent premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. At TIFF, the film had its world premiere and earned a standing ovation from the audience. Starring Rishikanth, Sananth, and Keerthy Suresh in the lead roles, it hit theatres worldwide on Friday.

Speaking about the film's director, legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam said, "Karthik is a very very special talent. He is a big advantage and a major boon for the Tamil industry. We have so many young, promising directors, and Karthik is the leader of the pack."

Regarding the latest release, Mani Ratnam added, "Dorothy is a very special film. His film language is excellent and very impressive. I am envious of his control over the language, over the shots, the technique and everything. When Ilaiyaraaja's music is added to it, it really becomes something very very special."

Dorothy marks the first collaboration between composer Ilaiyaraaja and Karthik Subbaraj. At a recent promotional event, Karthik asked Ilaiyaraaja why he chooses to work with young filmmakers such as him, having collaborated with some of the legends of Tamil cinema like Bharathiraja and K Balachander. In response, Ilaiyaraaja said that new filmmakers are akin to "empty vessels" for him.

Dorothy is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain. On the technical front, the film also has cinematographer S Thirunavukkarasu, editor Ganesh Siva, and production designer Kumar Gangappan.

The film has earned around 1.60 lakh from theatres so far, according to the latest available data from the box office tracker Sacnilk. With more positive feedback coming in and a greater number of shows being added in theatres, it is expected to gain momentum in the coming days at the box office.
