With Vijay's remarkable ascension to the position of Chief Minister after a triumphant debut in the recently held Tamil Nadu Legislative Elections, there has been some speculation about whether Dhanush would also follow the former's footsteps. The speculation has become quite intense thanks to the actor's welfare activity through his fan associations and public speeches, which reportedly signalled his political ambitions. However, Dhanush was not having it when a reporter broached a question about his political entry. He laughed off the question during a conversation with reporters after accepting his National Film Awards on Tuesday in Gujarat.

The actor won a National Award for Best Tamil Film for 2024's Raayan, which he starred in and directed. Interestingly, he recently addressed the public discourse about whether the film deserved the recognition over other titles that year, such as Meiyazhagan and Maharaja. During a public speech, the actor admitted that while there were better films than Raayan in 2024, he also found it an act of validation for his work over the years, including some films that he felt also deserved similar recognition.

Dhanush's National Awards for 2024 also included a Special Mention award for Captain Miller, the Arun Matheswaran directorial in which he starred in the lead role.

Dhanush was last seen in Kara, directed by Vignesh Raja of Por Thozhil fame. He will next be seen in Om, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and also starring Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela, and Naseeruddin Shah, among others. His upcoming films include an Ilaiyaraaja biopic, a film based on the life of former president APJ Abdul Kalam, Thamizh Murugan with director Vetri Maaran and co-star Vijay Sethupathi, and a film with Lubber Pandhu director Tamizharasan Pachamuthu.
