Director Karthik Subbaraj is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Dorothy, starring Keerthy Suresh, Rishikanth, and Sananth. Ahead of its release, the makers are set to drop a trailer for it later this Friday. Meanwhile, Captain Miller and DC filmmaker Arun Matheswaran showered Karthik Subbaraj and the film with praise.
Taking to X, Arun Matheswaran wrote, "A bold film needs a bold filmmaker. Huge congrats Karthik Subbaraj for Dorothy what a deeply moving, fearless story! So proud of Sananth and Rishikanth you two carry the heart of this film as Karthi and Subbu with such honesty and innocence. Wishes to Keerthy Suresh as well. Brilliant!!"
Dorothy follows close friends Karthi (Rishikanth) and Subbu (Sananth), who spent a good part of their upbringing in an unforgiving milieu in a Tamil Nadu village. When Dorothy (Keerthy Suresh), who has treated them with gentleness, undergoes an unfortunate situation, it changes the story unexpectedly, "shifting from their mere survival into a harsh, scorched-earth reality shaped by rigid patriarchal hierarchies and everyday violence," according to an excerpt from the Toronto International Film Festival. Recently, the film had its world premiere at TIFF, where it received a standing ovation from the audience and positive word of mouth.
Dorothy has music by Ilaiyaraaja, marking the first collaboration between the filmmaker and the legendary composer. The film's technical team also includes S Thirunavukkarasu, editor Ganesh Siva, and action choreographer Dinesh Subbarayan.
The film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain. It is backed by Sikhya Entertainment and Dhammam Films, as well as presented by Sikhya and Jio Studios. With Saravanan Chandran as its additional script writer, the film is set to hit theatres on September 25, Friday.
