Director Nelson and actor Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is now the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time, according to multiple reports. Data from the tracker Sacnilk shows that the film has earned around 720 crore from theatres worldwide. The Jailer sequel breaks the record of Rajinikanth's own 2.0 (2018).
According to many, the Jailer 2 box office collection is proof of Rajinikanth's enduring stardom and fame. Even at the age of 75 years, he has been able to bring in the masses to theatres and help rake in millions at the box office.
In India alone, the film has earned around 467 crore from the cinemas. Interestingly, 2.0 still holds the record for the highest-grossing Tamil film in terms of India box office collection, reports say. Reportedly, the 2018 film's collection is around 520 crore. However, the sequel to 2023’s Jailer is expected to break that record as well in the near future.
The industry and the audience now look forward to seeing whether it will become the first Tamil film ever to cross the 1000 crore mark.
Considering the releases of Suriya's Scene and Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 on November 06, Jailer 2 practically has another ten days of ‘free hit’ at the box office. If it maintains its current daily collection in India, hovering around 25 crore, it might just earn more than 1000 crore. Remember, the 25 crore figure accounts for only the domestic box office, and the international figure is higher in comparison to it. With the Rajinikanth factor still serving as a major box office driver for the film, you do not want to put the record beyond it just yet.
Recently, the Jailer 2 team celebrated its success, and Rajinikanth attended a show with fans—marking his first such public appearance in 40 years.
