The team behind the recent release Dorothy, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, has been receiving much appreciation from the audience and film fraternity members over the last few weeks. On Sunday, the film’s lead actors Sananth and Rishikanth shared personalised, hand-written notes from Vikram.
In his note of appreciation for Rishikanth, Vikram alluded to the actor's acclaimed performances in the recent releases Modha Rathri and Dorothy. “A double whammy. Congrats Rishi,” reads the note. In his response, Rishikanth wrote, “Thank you so much Vikram sir. So kind of you! And thank you so much for all those words you spoke over phone. Loads of love and respect to you sir, this means a lot.”
On the other hand, Vikram wrote, “So proud of you Sananth. Keep rocking!,” about his performance in Dorothy. In his response to Vikram, Sananth wrote, “Thank you so much GANDHIPAA! Will always make you proud.”
Recently, major stars from South Indian cinema, such as Rajinikanth, Mammootty, and Suriya also expressed their appreciation for the film.
For the unversed, Dorothy tells the story of two friends who grow up in unforgiving circumstances in rural Tamil Nadu, full of caste discrimination, violence, misogyny, and other patriarchal values. When they grow up, one of them has a realisation about his identity that complicates his equation with his family and his longtime friend. Soon, one of the two friends finds himself chasing the other in a gritty and realistic tale of friendship, love, identity, and self worth.
Also starring Keerthy Suresh and Muthukumar in important roles, Dorothy has received near critical acclaim and plenty of positive appreciation from audiences. According to the latest available data from the box office tracker Sacnilk, it has earned around 14 crore from theatres. Netflix holds the streaming rights for the film and is expected to release it in the near future.
