The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Navanethem "Navi" Pillay. The award recognises Pillay's "efforts to promote peace and international law," said The Nobel Prize. Several prominent personalities congratulated Pillay on the achievement, including actor Kamal Haasan, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, and actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan.

"Some lives leave you deeply moved. Navi Pillay’s is one such life. From a family whose roots in South Africa began with her grandparents’ indentured labour, she rose to become a pioneering jurist who stood against apartheid and helped establish rape and systemic sexual violence as acts of genocide under international law," Kamal Haasan wrote.

The superstar added, "What an extraordinary journey. The Nobel Peace Prize recognises the remarkable contribution of this South African jurist of Tamil origin to human rights and justice. A moment of immense pride for Tamils everywhere."

Meanwhile, Vijay echoed Kamal's sentiment, saying the recognition to Pillay, brings "boundless joy and pride to Tamil people living around the world."

On the other hand, Pawan Kalyan also shared the same sentiment, saying, "Navi Pillay's journey from challenging apartheid to championing human rights and international justice reflects courage, conviction and an unwavering commitment to equality. May her remarkable contributions continue to inspire generations to stand for justice and human dignity."

According to Reuters, Pillay not only established rape and sexual violence as part of genocide but also found that genocide has been committed by Israel in Gaza.

Speaking of which, actor Mark Ruffalo shared, "Wonderful to see Navi Pillay’s work recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize today. Her dedication to justice, human rights and accountability to those who commit unlawful acts and atrocities whether apartheid in South Africa or genocide in Gaza is inspiring and shows us the path to peace."
