It has been over 40 years since Urvashi made her debut in cinema. Over the years, the legendary artist has acted with numerous actors, including major stars and those known for their performances in supporting and comic roles. Recently, the actor recalled an incident where she felt remorseful after making fun of Kumarimuthu in a film.
Speaking to Sudhir Srinivasan, Urvashi said that her film's director asked her to perform 'half-eyed,' similar to Kumarimuthu. The actor revealed that while her performance brought plenty of laughter for the audience, she felt sad about it later.
"I interviewed him once after that. He is an extremely giving and very good human being," Urvashi said while recalling the conversation with her co-star. The actor added that when she asked Kumarimuthu what he wished to do in his younger days, he talked about his big regrets in life.
"He told me, 'I wanted to study but I could not study. I could not do any job that I wished to do. I wanted to be a policeman, but I lost my eyesight. Even when I tried to learn driving, the instructor made fun of my eyes, saying, 'Even those with two functioning eyes do not know how to drive properly; here you are with one and a half eyes.'"
Urvashi felt even more sad when Kumarimuthu told her that she once made fun of his lack of eyesight while working on a film. "I went out for 10 minutes and felt quite bad about it," the actor said. Kumarimuthu also told her that it was his acting with the eye problem that helped him earn a living. "Then, I decided that I will never make fun of anyone like this again," Urvashi said.
Her upcoming films include Parimala and Co, which brings her back together with longtime co-star, Jayaram.
