After cancellation of morning shows for Suriya's Karuppu, the action drama's noon shows have also been called off in several theatres, triggering a wave of anger and backlash from fans and audiences on social media.

The film, which was set for its big screen debut today, has reportedly been facing delays in its release due to pending financial settlements with financiers from the production side. With little clarity from the makers regarding the release, theatre owners and audiences have been left awaiting awaiting a clear update on the release. Many posted pictures of disappointed fans waiting outside cinema halls after being unaware of the sudden cancellation of morning shows.

Vettri theatres, Kamala Cinemas, GK Cinemas, Ega theatres and other major chains across Chennai had updated on their X handles that the afternoon shows were being cancelled and that money would be refunded to audiences soon.

Meanwhile, Vishnu Kamal of Kamala Cinemas posted that he received a call from the distributor's side informing them about Karuppu releasing in the evening after multiple cancelled shows. "This is truly heartbreaking for everyone who had been eagerly waiting to watch the film today," he said.

While SR Prabhu had issued an apology in the morning, an official word regarding when the film will release is awaited from the makers.

Karuppu stars Trisha as the female lead, reuniting with her Aaru (2005) co-star Suriya. The supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika, Natty, Supreeth Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi. RJ Balaji also plays a key role in the film.

The film revolves around a father-daughter duo, played by Indrans and Anagha Maya Ravi, who face repeated delays in the hearing of their case, partly due to the manipulative lawyer Baby Kannan (RJ Balaji in an antagonist avatar). After losing hope and leaving their fate to the gods, their case is taken up by Saravanan (Suriya), who is teased as an incarnate of Karuppusamy. Assisting him is Preethi (Trisha), a lawyer who has previously crossed paths with Baby Kannan.

The technical crew consists of Sai Abhyankkar as the composer, GK Vishnu as the cinematographer, R Kalaivanan as the editor and Arun Venjaramoodu as production designer.
