Suriya is gearing up for the release of his 45th film, Karuppu, helmed by RJ Balaji. As a part of the promotional activities, the actor spoke about the film, working with RJ Balaji, and his relationship with God at the pre-release event in Hyderabad.
On working with RJ Balaji, he said, "I always call RJ Balaji 'director'. I have a lot of respect for his journey. I always believe that I can only be one person in this lifetime, dedicated to mastering one passion. But he is multi-talented—an RJ, a commentator, an actor, a writer, and a director. But he is also an amazing friend, father and team leader. I really liked spending time with him."
Suriya then explained RJ Balaji's connection with God, while also detailing his own relationship. "Wherever there is faith and hope, magic happens. I am also a God-fearing person, but I only go to the temple when there is a crisis. But RJ Balaji, in every decision he makes, in every moment of his life, he is connected with God. He's always communicating with him," he said, adding that the almighty perhaps had a role in him accepting the film. "In the past few years, this is one of the films to which I agreed after talking to RJ Balaji for 30 minutes. I think Veerabadhrasamay/Karuppusamy was there in the room when we met."
On what to expect from the upcoming film, Suriya explained, "The first half of Karuppu will be a nice emotional courtroom drama. But in the second half, there will be a lot of theatrical moments and a lot of mass masala moments. There will also be a lot of humour and fun. That's the promise I can give you before the movie's release."
Karuppu also stars Trisha, Sshivada, Swasika, Yogi Babu, Anagha Maaya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy, and Indrans, among others. The film, with cinematography by GK Vishnu and editing by Kalaivanan, is all set to hit theatres on May 14.
