Anticipation surrounding the release of Vijay's Jana Nayagan is at an all-time high after the actor-turned-politician was sworn in as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu recently. Fans have begun speculating whether the film will finally see the light of day after receiving a censorship certificate from the CBFC.
Meanwhile, Jana Nayagan's producer, Venkat K. Narayana, is currently at the Cannes International Film Festival representing another production venture, Balan the Boy, helmed by Chidambaram. The film is all set to have a special market screening there on Thursday.
Reports from earlier today mentioned that CM Vijay has asked Venkat Narayana to return to Chennai in order to hasten the release plan for Jana Nayagan. However, sources close to the production house have now confirmed to CE that the producer is still at Cannes to attend the film's premiere at the Marché du Film.
First, Jana Nayagan's release, scheduled for January 9, was postponed after the Central Board for Film Certification withheld the film's censor certificate. Following a legal battle, the makers decided to withdraw the case, awaiting clearance from the CBFC for the film's release.
Furthermore, on April 9, the entirety of the film was leaked online in HD print. The film's piracy caused a huge loss for the makers, as the film was not only leaked online but was also shared repeatedly on social media. As per several reports, the OTT deal for the film, which was initially dropped after the film's postponement, has further been reduced due to the film's piracy.
On the investigation front, the Principal Sessions Court in Chennai refused bail to nine individuals accused in the Jana Nayagan movie leak case, noting that the investigation is still at an early stage and that the wider conspiracy needs to be fully uncovered through a detailed probe. On the other hand, the film's editor, Pradeep E Ragav, was dismissed from the editor's union after the leak.
Besides Vijay and Pooja, the upcoming film from director H Vinoth also stars Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Prakash Raj, and Narain, among others.
