Nearly a year ago, actor Rajinikanth revealed in a press meet that his next film, Jailer 2, was set to open in theatres on June 12 this year. But a few months back, reports emerged that the film's release is being pushed to August from June. While the makers never confirmed this, the shooting was wrapped only very recently, and no promotional activity for the film has begun with just one month left for the original release date.
As per many reports, August was set as the release date for the Jailer sequel. Notably, Rajinikanth's Jailer and Coolie were both released in the month of August. However, fresh reports are rife that the film's release is being further pushed.
As per new speculations, the makers have now locked September 4 as the release date for the film, marking the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami. However, the makers are yet to confirm the same. As though following a pattern, the year began with the postponement of Vijay's Jana Nayagan, and other star films, like Karuppu, were also pushed initially.
If the new release date is final, it may affect or benefit a few other films. Suriya's Vishwanath & Sons, slated for July, may be pushed to August. Similarly, Soori's Mandaadi is also planning for a release around the time. Only time will tell if these films will be released as per schedule.
Helmed by Nelson, Jailer 2 will also see the return of Muthuvel Pandian's wife, played by Ramya Krishnan, and his daughter-in-law Mirnaa. The reprisal of Shivarajkumar's and Mohanlal's cameo appearances in the sequel has also been confirmed.
New names added to the ensemble this time around include Jatin Sarna, Mithun Chakraborty, Santhanam, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vijay Sethupathi, Meghana Raj Sarja and Anna Rajan. There is also buzz about the appearance of Nora Fatehi in a dance number.
Plot details of the film are currently under wraps. Jailer 2 is produced by Kalanithi Maran under his Sun Pictures banner. On the technical front, the film has music by Anirudh. The first film's technical team members, such as cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan and editor R Nirmal, are also coming back for the sequel.
