Among the many celebrities who had praised actor Vijay for his electoral victory in Tamil Nadu, actor-filmmaker Samuthirakani hailed the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief's win, calling him "honourable Chief Minister."
After visiting Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirupati, Samuthirakani congratulated the actor-turned-politician's endeavours in his arduous journey to become the CM-designate. "After defeating all the hurdles, Vijay, my dear brother, Thalapathy and honourable Chief Minister is set to form the government. My hearty wishes to you. All these hurdles are nothing, brother, more obstacles will follow. I have hopes that you will break all of them successfully and govern the state, by taking its name to great heights. I pray to God for your success."
Samuthirakani's words of praise come at a time when Vijay is yet to get the support of the required number of MLAs to achieve a majority in order to form the government.
TVK recently emerged as the single largest party in the elections with 108 seats, but the actor-turned-politician was unable to secure a majority. After finalising a post-election coalition with the Congress, taking his seat count to 113, Vijay sought a green signal to take the oath as the chief minister and prove his majority in the floor test. However, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, has rejected the same, citing doubt over the party achieving the magic number of 118.
While the VCK, CPI and CPM, along with IUML expressed interest in joining hands with TVK, the VCK and IUML backed away at the eleventh hour. Another twist in the tale emerged when TVK submitted an AMMK MLA's support, leading to a tense scenario between Vijay and TTV Dhinakaran's parties with the latter claiming that the signature that they brought was forged. Hence, uncertainty still prevails over the political scenario in the state.
Meanwhile, Samuthirakani was last seen in Carmeni Selvam, written and directed by Ram Chakri. The film, which was released last month, also starred Gautham Vasudev Menon, Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli, and Abhinaya in key roles.
