Sathya is a 29-year-old man with an identity crisis who falls in love with a 21-year-old Viji in the trailer of 29. The Rathna Kumar directorial is headlined by Vidhu and Preethi Asrani.

The trailer shows Sathya (Vidhu) trying to figure out what he wants in life when a very ambitious Viji (Preethi), working on her UPSC exam preparation, comes into his life. The two fall in love, and all seems to be fine, until people around Sathya start noticing a change in him. Issues begin when their aspirational paths diverge. The trailer promises equal parts romance, drama and comedy.

29 also stars Mahendran, Shehnaz Fathima, Avinash and Prem in key roles. The film is produced by Kaarthikeyan S of Stone Bench Creations, the label that also involves filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj and director Lokesh Kanagaraj under the G Squad banner.

Previously, the makers of the film dropped a video, titled 'The World of 29', where the protagonists, played by Vidhu and Preethi Asrani, share a romantic moment. At the start of the scene, Preethi's character appears to be disgruntled for a lack of proposal from Vidhu's character, despite the two spending considerable time together. Later, he pacifies her by letting her know that the beach on which they are standing is the same place where they once met.

The film marks a directorial comeback for Rathna Kumar after 2022's Gulu Gulu, starring Santhanam and Namita Krishnamurthy. Since then, the filmmaker has been working on multiple projects in different capacities, including as a co-writer and a dialogue writer on films starring Vijay, Suriya, Kamal Haasan, and Rajinikanth.

Coming back to 29, the upcoming film has music by Sean Roldan, cinematography by Madhesh Manickam, and editing by RS Sathish Kumar. Also starring Mahendran, Avinash, Shenaz Fathima and Prem Kumar, the film is slated for a May 8 release.
