Last year on this day, Pooja Hegde starred alongside Suriya as Rukku in Karthik Subbaraj's Retro. With Suriya in the lead role, the film hit theatres alongside Tourist Family and opened to mixed reviews. A year after its release, Pooja Hegde has now penned a note on the film's anniversary.

The actor recalled all the issues she faced on the sets of Retro, including storms, a ligament tear and a boat catching fire, amongst other things. She shared a few behind-the-scenes videos, one of which shows a ferry catching fire on the film's sets along with a caption recalling the difficulties she faced.

"Storms, a ligament tear, endless mud, our boat catching fire (Suhas, forever a hero), and an island full of snakes… By all accounts, it should’ve been chaos," she wrote, adding that despite these issues, the film went smoothly and was a positive experience for her as an actor.

She continued, "But it wasn’t. It was filled with peace, good vibes, a whole lot of laughter and a feeling of making something purely for the love of it. Because when you’re creating with the right people, for the love of cinema, even the toughest days feel easy. Karthik Subbaraj, our captain, thank you for believing I could be Rukku."

Retro also stars Jayaram, Joju George, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Karunakaran, Vidhu, Sujith Shankar and Singampuli, among others. It told the story of Suriya's Paari Kannan, who is raised by a gangster after the demise of his adoptive mother. He falls in love with Rukmini and tries to reunite with her as he searches for his origins and fulfils a prophecy.

Made with a modest budget of Rs 60 crore, the film reportedly earned nearly Rs 250 crore, despite being criticised for having an overstuffed plot and issues with pacing. The film is now available to stream on Netflix.
