Actor Bharath, who was last seen in Once Upon a Time in Madras, is awaiting the release of his upcoming film Kaalidas 2, directed by Sri Senthil. For the Miral actor, returning to headline the sequel was an emotional reunion of sorts as the original movie, released in 2019 went on to become commercially successful and a "comeback film" for Bharath during his tough times.
Recalling his memories with Kaalidas during the trailer launch of the sequel, Bharath said, "When I was going through a fluctuating period in my life, a film that turned out to be a huge support to me was Kaalidas. Literally, it became a comeback film for me." While Barath wanted the sequel to be a compact crime thriller, the film's scale increased after the producers onboarded the project. "They have given everything that this film required and in fact, given it more than what it required. This is a big film for me. I have faith in this film and am sure that it will deliver," he assured.
Sharing details on the plot, he underlined that the upcoming film will not be a "regular crime thriller". "It is an emotional drama. This film has a lot of flavours. Why the media and the critics appreciated Kaalidas 1 was because it showed the emotional side of a policeman. In the same way, there are two types of crime. One is organised crime and the other is emotional crime," he added, sharing how his character from the franchise stands out from the rest of the police roles he has done in his career.
"I have not screamed at anyone, not raised a gun or lifted a machete. I have not delivered any punch dialogues. You will be able to enjoy the same subtleness in this film which you got to see in Kaalidas," he said.
Although he did not anticipate a sequel to be made, Bharath was sure that he wanted to collaborate with director Sri Senthil again. He is among the cream of techinicians. He is very sincere and actors can safely entrust themselves to him. If you get a good director, who knows the craft, you are sorted for that particular film. Senthil is one such director. I am blessed to have you in my life," he said.
With the film, actor Sangita is coming back to Tamil cinema following a long gap; her last documented role in the industry is in 1999's Jayam. Other members of the ensemble cast are Prakash Raj and Kishore in key roles along with Suresh Menon, Anant Nag, Bhavani Sre, Raja Ravindra, Abarnathi, Singam Jayavel, and DM Karthik in supporting characters.
Kaalidas 2 hits theatres on April 10.
