The producer of the sequel to Kaalidas, namely K Senthil's Sky Pictures, dropped the first official trailer for the film earlier this Friday. The Kaalidas 2 trailer shows Bharath's titular cop character looking into a missing girl case and a murder in a cinema hall. Besides Bharath, coming back for the film is writer-director Sri Senthil.
Featuring 'Crime and Punishment' as its tagline, the film's cast also includes Ajay Karthi, Prakash Raj, Kishore, and Sangita, among others. With the film, Sangita is coming back to Tamil cinema following a long gap; her last documented role in the industry is in 1999's Jayam. Rounding out the ensemble cast are actors Suresh Menon, Anant Nag, Bhavani Sre, Raja Ravindra, Abarnathi, Singam Jayavel, and DM Karthik.
Speaking to CE recently, writer-director Sri Senthil described Kaalidas 2 as a standalone film and not a continuation of the first part's story. He stated, "I wanted to make another crime thriller with a police officer as the central character. At the time of writing the film, I thought, ‘Why not bring back Kaalidas instead of creating another character from scratch?’”
That said, Kaalidas 2 also appears to be a whodunnit, judging by the latest trailer for the film. The shooting locations for the Kaalidas sequel include Chennai and Kerala. The film's technical team includes composer Sam CS, cinematographer Suresh Bala, editor Bhuvan Srinivasan, and action choreographer Om Prakash.
