We previously reported that Karthik Subbaraj's Stone Bench Production and Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media are coming together to present a film. On Monday, the makers announced the film as Neelira, helmed by Eelam Tamil filmmaker Someetharan. The first announcement about the film came two years ago in January 2024. The makers have now announced that the film will open in theatres on April 3.

While plot details are still under wraps, Neelira is billed to be a film that will recount stories from the Sri Lankan civil war. Naveen Chandra, who worked with Karthik Subbaraj in Jigarthanda Double X, plays the lead in Neelira. Vidhu, who was seen as Shetani in the film and as Michael in the filmmaker's Retro, is also a part of Someetharan's film.

Kapila Venu, Sanath, Roopa Koduvayur, Rohit D Kokate, Kayal Vincent, Swathy Krishnan, Tharmeega Manimaran and Sidhu Kumaresan round out the cast of Neelira. The tagline of the film reads 'A Long Night'. The film is also billed to be based on the memoirs of a war child, as per the makers.

The cinematography of Neelira has been handled by Selvaratnam Pratheepan, while the editing is done by Radha Sridhar, who has worked on films like Hey Sinamika and Ammu. K is the film's music composer. Kaarthekeyen Santhanam is backing the film along with Karthik under their Stone Bench banner. Rana Daggubati and Kalyan Subramanian are co-producers. More details about the film's plot are awaited.
