Actor Sarath Kumar attended the funeral function of the late filmmaker-actor-screenwriter K Bhagyaraj earlier this Sunday. In photographs and videos of the ceremony, he can be seen lifting the mortal remains of the multi-hyphenate alongside actor-filmmaker R Parthiban during his funeral procession in Chennai.
The filmmaker passed away following a cardiac arrest in Chennai. Chief Minister Joseph Vijay visited Bhagyaraj's residence on Saturday, paid his final respects to the filmmaker, and conveyed the government's decision to accord state honours to him at his funeral. As promised, earlier this Sunday, the final rites ceremony took place with state honours.
Subsequently, Sarath Kumar took to social media and thanked the government and CM Vijay for making the arrangements. In an X note, he wrote, "We express our heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and the esteemed Ministers who extended their unwavering support by granting the necessary permissions and making exemplary arrangements to ensure that the final journey of our beloved friend, Mr. K. Bhagyaraj—an unparalleled achiever of the Tamil film industry, India's incomparable "King of Screenplay," and a personality who will forever remain in the hearts of the Tamil people—was conducted with the utmost respect and dignity."
The statement further noted, "We also extend our sincere thanks to the Tamil Nadu Police for providing comprehensive security arrangements from beginning to end and for ensuring that the occasion was conducted with the dignity and honor it deserved."
On Saturday, Sarath Kumar's actor daughter Varalaxmi also shared her thoughts about the filmmaker's sudden passing. She shared, "Just landed and heard this horrible heart breaking news.. totally shocked and out of words.. you will always be in our hearts..all I can do is send prayers love and strength to the family.. so sorry for your loss Poornima aunty, Shanthnu, and Kiki Vijay."
