On Wednesday, we reported about Rajinikanth's next film with Dragon director Ashwath Marimuthu and producer Kamal Haasan being titled Dharman. While the makers revealed the title with a poster, giving a first look at the Superstar's character in the film, they dropped another image from it earlier this Thursday.
In the new poster, Rajinikanth can be seen with a doctor's uniform in his hand and a stethoscope around his neck. In the caption, the makers wrote, "Swag is his Signature. Ketta Paiyan Sir. Dharman shoot begins." It is worth noting that 'Ketta Paiyan Sir' is a nod to Rajinikanth's iconic line from 1978's Mullum Malarum. The line in the 1978 film reads, "Ketta Paiyan Sir Indha Kaali" (This Kaali is a bad boy).
Dharman marks the 173rd film in Rajinikanth's career. The film also stars Simran in the female lead, and it reunites her with the Superstar after their collaboration on 2019's Petta. Its cast includes Raashii Khanna as well.
On the technical front, it has music by Anirudh, stunts by Anbariv, cinematography by Niketh Bommi, editing by Pradeep E Ragav, and production design by Karthik Rajkumar.
Kamal Haasan is producing the film under his Raaj Kamal Films International banner, alongside R Mahendran. S Disney serves as a co-producer on the film. The makers are yet to reveal plot specifics, but they use the tagline "The Deadly Doctor" in the posters. The use of the promotional text, "An Ashwath Marimuthu Entertainment," in the poster and the word 'swag' in the promotional text hint at another commercial entertainer with Rajinikanth's typical hero elevation moments.
Ashwath Marimuthu came onboard for Dharman as a replacement for Cibi Chakravarthi of Don fame. The makers and Cibi Chakaravarthi himself have not revealed the reason for his exit from the project. Earlier, Sundar C also stepped down from the project, citing creative differences.
