Noted cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa, who has cranked the camera for many acclaimed and hit films including, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, Nanban, Enai Noki Paayum Thota and others, has been appointed as the head of Tamil Nadu Government M.G.R. Film and Television Institute in Chennai.

The key government appointment comes over a month after former actor Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. For the unversed, Manoj Paramahamsa is a frequent collaborator with Vijay and has worked with him in hit films like Nanban, Beast and Leo.

The cinematographer holds Vijay in high regard and has previously praised him, saying that the journey with him has always been the "sweetest."

The appointment is particularly significant for Manoj Paramahamsa, as he is an alumnus of the same institution where he received his early training in cinematography.

He began his career by assisting DOP S Saravanan in films such as Pammal K Sambandam, Arasatchi, Priyamana Thozhi, Madhurey, Thirupaachi and Thirupathi, before taking over the camera by himself.

After his debut in Arivazhagan's Eeram (2009), he built a stellar career for himself, earning name and fame through his projects that he undertook beyond Tamil cinema. Some of his notabe works beyond the above-mentioned films include Nadunisi Naaygal, Sillu Karuppatti, Radhe Shyam, Prince, and Guntur Kaaram, among others. He turned producer with Halitha Shameem's Poovarasam Peepee, and went on to collaborate with her once again in Sillu Karuppatti and then backed her latest film Minmini.

He is currently awaiting the release of Gautham Menon's long delayed Dhruva Natchathiram.
