Director Meera Kathiravan's film, Habeebi, released in theatres earlier this Friday. The film stars Esha, Kasthoori Raja, Malavika Manoj, Dhanashree Sudhakaran, Arulkumar, and Anusreya Rajan, among others. Meera Kathiravan directed it from a screenplay by VS Mohamed Ameen.

Earlier this Friday, cinematographer PC Sreeram shared his opinion of the film. After watching the film, he said, "It is a wonderful attempt. You can make such a film in Tamil without any concerns, because audiences here welcome all good films. Therefore, I think they will welcome this film too."

Sreeram called Habeebi a profound love story. "The film seemed like it was heading towards a different destination, but it brings a major reality at the end."

PC Sreeram also praised the work of Habeebi cinematographer Mahesh Muthuswami. "A special element of the film is Mahesh Muthuswami's cinematography. There are many layers to his work. Only a cinematographer can watch and enjoy it," the acclaimed DOP opined. He also conveyed his best wishes to the team behind the film.

Set in a Tamil-speaking Muslim household in southern Tamil Nadu, Habeebi tells a timeless romance story that spans three different time periods, from the 1980s to this decade. The film explores how the forced migration of handloom weavers seeking work overseas reshaped families.

Produced by Romeo Pictures, Nesam Entertainment Pvt Ltd, and GKS Bros Production, the film has music by Sam CS, editing by Mathi VS, and art direction by Appunni Sajan.

In our review, Narayani M wrote, "While romantic movies set inside a Muslim household are sparse, Habeebi fails to channel the potential it possesses and succumbs to the same narrative cliches that it wants to move away from."
