Ever since it was reported that Shah Rukh Khan's cameo in Jailer 2 was not happening, reports moved on to Hrithik Roshan for the special appearance in the Rajinikanth film. While the news has remained a rumour all this while, a report on Variety India confirms the cameo appearance in the Nelson directorial.
Additionally, the report also suggested that the Krrish actor will be in Chennai on June 22 and 23 to shoot his short portions in the film. Like the cameos in the first film, Hrithik's character is expected to help Rajinikanth at a crucial juncture, paving the way for the story to move forward.
The team is expected to be designing a never-seen-before look for Hrithik, with a look test scheduled before the shoot begins. When recent reports suggested that Jailer 2 would be going for a reshoot, many others denied the report, adding that the shooting was meant only for this cameo. However, the makers neither confirmed nor denied the news.
With Hrithik's cameo in Jailer 2, the film marks his reunion with Rajinikanth 40 years after Bhagwaan Dada. The former played the latter's foster son in the 1986 Hindi film. In an old interview, he detailed his experience working with Rajinikanth with an anecdote. He said, "He [Rajinikanth] was so gentle and caring. Whenever I messed up a shot, my grandfather used to cut the shot, and Rajini sir used to take the blame. He would say, "Sorry, my fault," but it was actually my fault. This happened every single time so that I, a child, would not get conscious."
With the reshoots speculated, Jailer 2, which was initially set for a June 12 release but later pushed to August, then September, is now expected for release only in October. Still, the makers are yet to officially announce the release date. Apart from Rajinikanth, the sequel also stars Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa, Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal, Jatin Sarna, Mithun Chakraborty, Santhanam, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vijay Sethupathi, Meghana Raj Sarja and Anna Rajan, among others.
