The buzz surrounding Rajinikanth's next, Thalaivar 173, has only been growing ever since reports emerged that Ashwath Marimuthu has officially taken over the directorial reigns from Cibi Chakravarthy. While the makers, Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI), have yet to officially confirm the rejig, their recent post wishing the director on his birthday has well-stirred the speculation pot.

Now, as per sources close to the production, a look test photo shoot has recently taken place in Chennai, with photos captured by G Venkat Ram at the RKFI office. Reportedly, Rajinikanth appeared in a doctor's costume, complete with a stethoscope, for the photoshoot.

As per this report, Rajinikanth is speculated to play a doctor in Ashwath's third directorial, marking his first role playing the profession. While the actor previously played a psychologist in Chandramukhi, he has never taken on the role of a full-fledged medical practitioner.

Some reports also suggest that the story may be inspired by real-life doctors, like the popular Rs 5 doctor, known for providing affordable healthcare services. However, details regarding the plot remain under wraps. As per a reliable source, the film is slated to go on floors on June 26 at Sundar Studios in Poonamallee, where sets are being constructed.

Meanwhile, some other speculations recently emerged that Mysskin, who previously starred in Ashwath's Dragon, is also set to play a part in Thalaivar 173. Details about the cast, crew, plot, genre and release date are awaited.

Thalaivar 173 initially had Sundar C as the director. Following his exit, Cibi Chakravarthy was confirmed as the director. However, while the film was initially scheduled to go on floors in April, it was delayed, which led to speculations about the director being changed yet again. Meanwhile, RKFI is also set to collaborate with Rajinikanth for a film with Kamal Haasan, directed by Nelson, tentatively titled KHxRK Reunion.
