After a registering a strong first weekend at the box office by earning Rs 124.75 crore net in India, CM Vijay's Jana Nayagan is continuing to witnessing a gradual dip in revenue during the weekdays. After registering Rs 10.65 crore on its first Monday, which was a 68 per cent decline from Sunday's Rs 32 crore net, the H Vinoth directorial witnessed further dip to collect Rs 8 crore on Tuesday. This was a 24.9 per cent drop from Monday's numbers.
After six days, the actioner's total revenue comes to Rs 143.40 net across India while the gross collections have already surpassed the Rs 150 crore mark and is currently at Rs 167.57 crore. Similar to countrywide numbers, its overseas revenue has also come down significantly, minting Rs 3 crore, taking its total overseas gross to Rs 78.50 crore.
Worldwide, Jana Nayagan has already crossed the Rs 250 crore mark. It has also emerged as one of the top grossers at the United Kingdom and Ireland box offices. Collecting 596,324 USD (Rs 5.7 crores), Jana Nayagan is the fifth highest grossing film in both countries.
However, reviews for the film have been mixed with many praising Vijay's screen presence, but criticising it for its screenplay and the overload of political dialogues in the movie. In our CE review of the film, we had written, "In Jana Nayagan, politics is not discussed or debated. It is shouted through a megaphone, ending up less a conversation and more of a monologue. Vetri talks about every issue that stems from political apathy, but there is no place for nuanced discussion because Vijay didn’t have enough time."
Jana Nayagan features a star-studded ensemble consisting of Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol, alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani. The film is backed by Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions, in its first production in Tamil cinema.
A partial remake of 2023 National Award-winning Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari, directed by Anil Ravipudi and headlined by Nandamuri Balakrishna, it follows a former police officer who raises the daughter of a deceased friend and encourages her to overcome childhood trauma and pursue a career in the Indian Army. Jana Nayagan is first of his films to be released after he assumed office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
