After months and months of waiting, Vijay's Jana Nayagan has finally opened in theatres, and in the first week the film's collections have only been increasing, with shows being increased. Helmed by H Vinoth, Vijay's swansong was scheduled for release on January 9 but, after a difficult battle, only opened in theatres on July 23.
Now, the director has revealed that following the first week's shows, the second week may have a new and extended version of Jana Nayagan. As per the filmmaker, the film may include 6 additional deleted scenes from next week.
At a success meet conducted by Behindwoods in Chennai, Vinoth broke down the six scenes as "There are two fun (comedy) scenes featuring sir (Vijay), two action scenes and two other emotional scenes." While Vinoth initially said that it was up to the producers to release those scenes, he later said he was "ready" to put them out, adding, "We will think about adding them from next week or so.”
Apart from Vijay, Jana Nayagan also stars Prakash Raj, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Revathy, Priyamani, and Narain, among others. The film, a partial remake of Nandamuri Balakrishna's Bhagavanth Kesari, opened to largely middling reviews. However, commercially, the film has earned Rs 200 crore worldwide as of now.
Jana Nayagan's Pongal release in January 2026 was delayed after the film failed to receive a censor certificate from the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC). The film, backed by Venkat K Narayana under the KVN Productions banner, had to be postponed indefinitely due to a never-ending court case, which they later withdrew from.
Further, the film faced another setback when it was leaked in its entirety on piracy sites in April. From there, although fans believed the film would release following Vijay's ascension to the chief minister's chair in May, it took two more months for the film to clear all hurdles and open in theatres.
