Actor Vijay Sethupathi talked about his family's financial struggles in his younger days in a recent interview. Speaking on the Truly Ram podcast, Vijay said that he confronted borrowers on behalf of his father. The actor mentioned that even as a young person, he would sit with his father when creditors came to their residence to deal with the situation.
"What I faced in my younger days was mostly financial difficulties. People say that youth is full of poverty and hardship. I have faced this a lot in my youth," the actor said. He added, "If you want something, you have to calculate how much you need it. Your financial situation decides that. Whether the borrowers come, I was with my father to handle it."
Those days of hardship are long gone for Vijay Sethupathi. In the initial parts of his career, the actor appeared in small roles in films such as Pudhupettai before landing breakthrough roles in Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, helmed by Seenu Ramasamy, and Pizza, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. Since then, there has been no looking back for him.
He is among the highest-paid actors in India today. According to reports, the actor gets a remuneration of 15 to 25 crore for each film, although it is worth noting that the exact amount varies depending on the language or the industry, his role in it, and the overall scale of the project.
Vijay was most recently seen in the silent film Gandhi Talks, directed by Kishor Pandurang Belekar. The actor is set to feature in a cameo role in Jailer 2, co-starring Rajinikanth and directed by Nelson. His upcoming films include Train with Mysskin, Arasan with Vetri Maaran and co-star Silambarasan TR, Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road with Puri Jagannadh, and Pocket Novel with Thiagarajan Kumararaja and co-star Malavika Mohanan.
