A few days ago, we had reported that Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan being certified 'A' by the CBFC after 12 cuts/modifications were suggested by the board. Now, according to reports, the action movie from director H Vinoth has been re-censored with 41 seconds of extra footage, taking the new runtime to 3 hours, 3 minutes and 52 seconds (183.52 minutes). The 'A' rating continues to remain post re-censoring.
The censor board's new certification has been going viral across social media, with many wondering what the added footage could be. It has fueled excitement among fans who are awaiting the film's release on July 23 or 24. An exact date is yet to be specified by the makers.
While the Indian audiences will be watching the movie with several cuts and modifications in India, UK distributor Ahimsa Entertainment recently announced that Jana Nayagan has been classified 15+ in the country and will be screened in its original form without cuts.
Jana Nayagan's imminent release ultimately marks the end of a seven-month-long wait for fans, audiences, and the producers, who had spent months hoping to see the film finally reach theatres. Besides the standoff between the CBFC and the makers, the film was also became a victim to large-scale piracy where the entire movie was leaked online. The release will also mark a full circle moment in Vijay's career who started with the title "Ilaya Thalapathy" in the '90s. In 2017, starting with Mersal, he officially dropped the prefix "Ilaya" and became known simply as "Thalapathy". With Jana Nayagan, Vijay will be getting the title card "The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C Joseph Vijay" reflecting his current position in the state.
Directed by H Vinoth, the upcoming film boasts a star-studded ensemble featuring Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju, alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani. The film is backed by Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions, in its foray into Tamil cinema.
