There has been much speculation about the release of Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, over the last few days. Recently, KVN Productions confirmed that the film has received an 'A' certificate from the Censor Board and that the film will release soon in theatres. However, the makers of the film are yet to confirm the official release date.
Meanwhile, film ticket reservation applications such as District and Ticketnew mention July 24 as the release date of the Vijay starrer. It has caused the circulation of many unofficial posters with July 24 as the Jana Nayagan release date.
On Monday, NDTV reported that the makers of Sigma, directed by actor-turned-chief minister Vijay's son Jason Sanjay, have pushed the film's July 31 release to August as Jana Nayagan is expected to hit theatres a week before it. Notably, Sigma marks the directorial debut of Jason Sanjay.
The Vijay starrer was slated for a Pongal 2026 release in theatres, but it has been delayed due to a battle between the producer and the Censor Board. Reportedly, a Censor Board member expressed reservations with the film's portrayal of communal, religious, and military elements. However, the censorship raw surrounding the film has finally ended, now that the board has granted it an 'A' certificate.
In the meantime, the film was also leaked and spread to pirated sources, causing millions of people to watch it before its release. Jana Nayagan is a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari, the National Award-winning Telugu film starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and Sreeleela. Besides Vijay, the film also stars Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain, among others. Its technical team includes composer Anirudh, cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan, editor Pradeep E Ragav, and production designer V Selvakumar.
