There is growing frustration over the delay in the release of Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth. Amid the frustration among fans and film fraternity members, there is considerable buzz that its producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions is thinking about withdrawing the case filed against the Censor Board. With the Madras High Court ruling that the case be transferred back to its single judge, Justice PT Asha, for a fresh hearing, the makers are set to decide on whether to abandon the case or approach the Revising Committee. Earlier, the High Court set aside judge Asha's previous order directing the board to grant the film a U/A certificate.

With four days to go for the film's original release, scheduled for January 09, the Censor Board decided against granting a U/A certificate for the film and recommended sending it to the committee. Back then, the makers filed a case against the board at the High Court, seeking relief from it. However, now that it has missed out on the Pongal slot and the release has been delayed considerably and considering the possible delay from the single bench's hearing, the makers are reportedly thinking about going back to the committee. According to reports, the re-censoring process takes 10 days or more.

Earlier, it was reported that the board's contention stems from scenes in the film showing foreign forces that trigger religious unrest in the country. According to Satish Parasaran, the legal representative for KVN Productions, a committee member differed from the rest of the members' decision to grant it the aforesaid certificate before raising a complaint against Jana Nayagan in a way that is against the law.

"The producers deleted the scenes that the board objected to, but they (board) wanted us to re-introduce the scenes and submit the movie and then delete the same scenes. It is an empty exercise," Satish Parasaran said. He added, "The decision to review the movie was taken based on a complaint by a member of the examining committee. Members of the examining committee could never become the complainant as per the statute."
