Varun Grover on row concerning AR Rahman: 'If any further proof was needed...'

SJ Suryah and Paresh Rawal also supported Rahman

Composer AR Rahman continues to garner support from the entertainment industry after his comments about his reduced presence in Hindi cinema triggered a raging debate about religion and caste on the internet. While many criticised the legendary composer for suggesting that there might be a communal angle to his reduced number of film offers from the Hindi belt, he has also received support from many others. The latest celebrities to throw their weight behind the Oscar winner include SJ Suryah, Varun Grover and Paresh Rawal.

Suryah shared a video where Rahman clarified his comments and wrote, "Love and respect sir." On the other hand, Paresh Rawal shared the same video and commented, "We love you sir . You are our pride." Paresh's comment is especially notable, considering that he is known to support pro-right-wing views and his tenure as a BJP MP.

At the same time, stand-up comedian Varun Grover, especially, came out with strong words against the naysayers. Varun shared Rahman's song 'O Paalanhaare' from Lagaan on X and wrote, "The greatest living composer of the last 3 decades got attacked and abused (even by people within the industry) for stating an opinion in the politest, mildest manner, that too based on his lived-experience. And the very next day forced to issue an apology/clarification to calm the toxic mob down. If any further proof was needed to confirm his hints at the rising divisiveness..."
