AR Rahman’s remarks about his diminishing work in Hindi film industry in a recent interview have been drawing a lot of criticism and strong responses. Earlier today, we reported about Shobhaa De criticising Rahman for his remarks. Now, Javed Akhtar and Kangana Ranaut have reacted to the same, with Kangana labelling Rahman as ‘hateful.’
Taking to her Instagram stories, Kangana recalled the instance when Rahman refused to meet Kangana for her 2019 film Emergency, which she wanted to work for. She added, “I was told you don’t want to be part of a propaganda film. I face so much prejudice and partiality in the film industry because I support a saffron party yet I must say I have not come across a man more prejudiced and hateful than you. Even opposition party leaders sent me fan letters appreciating the film for its balanced and compassionate approach, but you are blinded by your hate. I feel sorry for you,” she said. It is to be noted that Kangana has never worked in a film which had music by Rahman.
Meanwhile, Javed Akhtar, who has worked with Rahman on many films, reacted to the controversy in a recent interview, implying that Rahman is mistaken in his notions. The veteran scriptwriter-lyricist stated, “I don’t think there is any communal element to this. I also doubt that he would ever say something like this. People have great respect for him. Maybe they assume he is too busy with work in west or other shows. Small producers are possibly scared to approach him."
Among others, music personalities like Shaan, Anup Jalota, Hariharan, and Leslie Lewis also reacted on the controversy.
Besides addressing the subject of why he’s possibly getting fewer offers than before, Rahman also opened up on working on Vicky Kaushal starrer Chhaava, calling it a ‘divisive film,’ while stating that contemporary audience is smart enough to distinguish reality and manipulation.
