Actor Ken Karunaas, who is set to make his directorial debut with Youth, has shared that when he was not sure what his future in films would be after starring in Vetri Maaran's Asuran, it was Dhanush who channelised his interest into film direction.
In a recent interview with Vikatan, Ken shared that after Asuran, he was just roaming about, simply not knowing what to do, but had fixed his mind on pursuing something in cinema. "During that time, I happened to meet Dhanush sir. After he asked me what I am planning to do in the industry and what I am working on, I openly said that I am just idling away. He then advised me to join as an assistant director on the films he starred in. That was how I joined Thiruchitrambalam, Vaathi, in which I eventually acted too, and then Raayan."
He went on to state further that it was during his time as an AD in Dhanush's films that his interest in direction grew and brought the much-needed clarity in his career.
Ken, son of actor-politician Karunaas and singer Grace Karunaas, is known for his performances in films such as Asuran (2019) and Viduthalai 2 (2024), both directed by Vetri Maaran. The film, which also stars Devadarshini and Suraj Venjaramoodu in pivotal roles, is billed as a fun entertainer revolving around school life.
Ken, Vignesh Srikanth, and Eshwar Santhanalakshmi are writing lyrics for the film. The technical crew of the film includes GV Prakash as the composer, Viki as the cinematographer, Nash as the editor, and Ramu Thangaraj as the editor.
The upcoming film is produced by Karuppiah C Ram, Sulochana Kumar, and Kali Rajkumar. Paarvathaa Entertainments and Street Boy Studios are producing the film.
