Director Sudha Kongara's film Parasakthi is off to a bumper start at the box office in India. According to data from Sacnilk, the estimated net collection for the film stands at 11.5 crore for its opening day. It is worth noting that this is rough data and the actual Parasakthi box office collection might vary a little bit from it. The film stars Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, Sreeleela, and Chetan, among others. Set in the 1960s, it tells the story of a revolution against Hindi imposition.
The film has hit theatres following a delayed censorship process, which saw it getting the certificate a day before its release.
Director Sudha Kongara has reacted to the delayed process by saying that the Censor Board is "just doing their job" and that she is "OK" with the 25 cuts that have been applied to the film. Critics have been giving mixed reviews for Parasakthi so far. In our review, Prashanth Vallavan wrote, "Capturing one of the most important moments in modern Tamil history, Parasakthi struggles to leave an impact with its acute focus on a broader appeal, formulaic storytelling, apologetic tone, and cautious approach."
On the other hand, many netizens have also been suggesting that the film is not up to the mark and posting memes referring to how the original cast 'escaped' it. For the uninitiated, the film, titled Purananooru back then, was originally set to star Suriya, Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya Nazim, and Vijay Varma.
