Rajinikanth's iconic 1999 film Padayappa is continuing to entertain audiences three weeks after its re-release. The film, which hit theatres on December 12 to mark Rajinikanth's 75th birthday and 50th year in the industry, has completed 25 successful days in theatres. Sharing the news, Rajinikanth's manager said, "The roar is still loud. The love is still real. Superstar Rajinikanth's Padayappa completes 25 successful days on its re-release after 25 years. The team thank the fans and audience, for keeping the celebration alive across 50+ screens!"
Throughout the state, fans have been celebrating the KS Ravikumar directorial since it hit theatres once again after 26 years. Videos of fans and public holding celebrations inside halls had flooded the internet in the first two weeks of its release, with many celebrities watching the film to celebrate their favourite star.
Besides Rajinikanth, the film starred Ramya Krishnan and Soundarya as female leads.
Padayappa also starred Sivaji Ganesan, Radha Ravi, Nassar, Manivannan, and Abbas. Produced by Rajinikanth's Arunachala Cine Creations, the film continues to remain a favourite among Tamil fans for its strong storyline and screenplay, and also for AR Rahman's soundtrack and songs. Thanks to strong nostalgic value associated with the original, the entertainer remained houseful on weekends with drastic increase in footfall.
Last month, Rajinikanth, in a video address about his experience filming for Padayappa, shared that he is planning to make a sequel to the film from the point of view of Neelambari, who vows to avenge the 'injustice' caused to her. Further updates on the film are awaited.
