Vijayasarathy, who appeared in Padayappa early in his acting career, reacts to trending on social media, after the film re-released in theatres. Padayappa returned to theatres in a digitally restored 8K format, on December 12, Rajinikanth's birthday.
Writing through his X handle, the actor wrote, "Neengadhan Trending ipo (You are trending right now). Am getting this from many friends. I myself witnessed a big laughter after this dialogue, including me."
In the film the actor plays the role of Padayappa's sister's son, and later Padayappa's prospective son-in-law. In a key scene in the film, when the character's planned marriage falls through, he is urged to marry another woman. Several users took that scene as a reference to talk about Vijayasarathi.
Speaking about receiving fame for that scene, Vijayasarathy wrote, "But,wn Padayappa-my thaaimaama (father-in-law)-in the movie asks me, I can only say YES. Dot."
Originally released in 1999, Padayappa was released on the 25th year of Rajinikanth's career, and became one of the last releases of Sivaji Ganeshan. The film was directed KS Ravikumar, and also featured Ramya Krishnan as Neelambari, the film's villain. Padayappa was a turning point in the actor's career. The film is currently playing in theatres.
