Films of Ajith and Vijay have been re-released in theatres, continuing a major trend in recent times. The former's Thunivu (2011) and the latter's Theri (2016) is currently running in theatres.

At a theatre in Chennai, during a show of Theri (2016), fans of Ajith heckled the audience by saying, "Kadavuley Ajithey", reported News 7 Tamil. This is a phrase which Ajith has asked the public not to use. This led to a scuffle between both parties.

The police later arrived and was able to resolve the matter amicably between the two parties.

Thunivu (2023) and Theri (2016) are the latest among the films of both actors to be releasing on theatres. Recently Vijay's Ghilli was re-released in theatres. On January 23, Ajith's Mankatha (2011) was rereleased in theatres, after 15 years of its initial release.
