Director Raja Karuppasamy's film Modha Rathri opened in theatres on Friday to highly positive reviews from critics. The film, starring Rishikanth and Anishma Anilkumar in the lead roles, earned much appreciation from reviewers for its storytelling and performances. It follows the chaotic events on the night following the marriage of Marudanayagam (Rishikanth) and Muthuselvi (Anishma). Marudanayagam and Muthuselvi's first night turns shocking, with a mystery making the couple's lives chaotic.

Despite the positive reviewers, the film is yet to convert the word of mouth into high box office numbers. According to data from the box office tracker Sacnilk, the film earned 13 lakh from theatres on the first day of its release. On Saturday, the second day, it grossed 22 lakh, taking the overall Modha Rathri box office collection to 0.35 crore.

In our Modha Rathri review, Akshay Kumar wrote, "Since Indian and Tamil weddings have a lot to do with prestige, status, class, and caste factors, the film doesn't shy away from messaging. The messaging against caste discrimination too takes the form of a setup and payoff. Thankfully, the message is pointed and not preachy."

The film also stars Chetan, director Raja Karuppasamy himself, Abdool Lee, and Bagavathi Perumal, among others. On the technical front, the film has composer Bharath Sankar, cinematographer Surendran Paranjothi, editor Ashok Arjunan, production designer A Balumahendra, and costume designer Poornima Ramaswamy.

Modha Rathri is produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar under the Mythri Movie Makers banner. It marks the producer's third film in Tamil, the first two being Ajith Kumar's Good Bad Ugly and Pradeep Ranganathan-Mamitha Baiju's Dude.
