Earlier this Friday, actor-turned-chief minister Joseph Vijay's spouse Sankgeetha has withdrawn the petition she filed at the Chengalpattu District Court seeking divorce from her husband. The court has now revealed that the case involving the two has been closed. The verdict comes around six months after Sankgeetha filed for divorce. An excerpt from the statement from the verdict reads, "The petitioner is permitted to withdraw this case with a liberty to file fresh petition in the future, if required."
At the time, Sankgeetha claimed in the petition that she experienced mental, physical, and emotional neglect during her marital life, and that she was put through verbal disdain. It mentioned that her financial independence was restricted during the relationship.
The verdict also comes a few months after Sankgeetha filed a plea at the court looking for interim residential relief as the divorce proceedings remained pending. The plea requested Vijay to be directed to allow her to remain at the family’s residence in Neelankarai until a final verdict on the divorce or the provision of an equivalent alternate place of accommodation.
Subsequently, reports started to surface over a possible settlement of the issue between both parties amidst mutual discussions between them, with speculation on a mutually agreed separation and financial arrangements. However, the latest verdict refutes all those speculated developments.
Vijay has been married to Sankgeetha for more than two decades now, and the couple have a son, Jason Sanjay, and a daughter named Divya Saasha. Their relationship has largely stayed private during the course of their marriage, in spite of Vijay’s public profile.
Both parties are yet to offer formal statements on the latest verdict, but the news has been verified to be true.
On the work front, Vijay's film Jana Nayagan is waiting for its digital premiere following a bumper theatrical success, which saw it grossing more than 300 crore at the box office. On the other hand, Jason Sanjay is awaiting the release of his directorial debut, Sigma, starring Sundeep Kishan in the lead role.
