Director Saran's 1999 blockbuster Amarkalam, starring Ajith Kumar and Shalini in the lead roles, is back again in theatres. The 25th film in Ajith's career, Amarkalam proved a major break for the actor, as it paved the way to many mass action hero roles for him. The 1999 film was also a crucial project for him from a personal point of view, as he fell in love with Shalini on its sets.

Recently, actor Sreeja Ravi reminisced about working on the 1999 blockbuster as a dubbing artist. Speaking to Rednool, Sreeja said that while dubbing for Shalini in the film, she was not aware that the actress and Ajith were in a relationship.

"I got into the dubbing room, stood near the podium and was looking at the scene onscreen and going through the dialogues. Suddenly, I heard a voice from behind, saying, 'Thanks for dubbing for my wife.' I turned back to see who it was, and Ajith sir was standing there. I told him, 'Wife? Who is your wife? I do not understand.' He told me, 'No, I am getting married to Shalini.' I did not know about their relationship at all. I was delighted about him telling this personal matter to me,'" Sreeja Ravi revealed.

Ajith Kumar and Shalini tied the knot in 2000, the year after the release of Amarkalam. Later, Shalini stepped away from acting to take care of family life.

Ajith has often expressed his gratitude to Shalini for playing an important role in his life and career. Sreeja Ravi's revelation about the couple comes a few days after their wedding anniversary.
