Earlier this Friday, the producer of Kara, starring Dhanush and directed by Vignesh Raja, dropped a video offering glimpses of the characters in the film. The clip, titled 'Faces of Kara,' offers a first look at Sreeja Ravi's character in the film. The actor plays Dhanam in the movie, produced by Ishari K Ganesh of Vels Film International in association with Think Studios. Over the last few days, the film's producer has been dropping posters offering a first look at the characters, alongside their names, in it. However, they have revealed Sreeja Ravi's character look only with the latest video.
Kara also stars Mamitha Baiju, KS Ravikumar, Karunas, Jayaram, Prithvi Pandiarajan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and MS Baskar. It marks Vignesh Raja's second film as a director, the first one being the critically acclaimed whodunnit Por Thozhil (2023), starring Sarath Kumar and Ashok Selvan in the lead roles.
The film is directed by Vignesh from a screenplay he has written with his Por Thozhil collaborator Alfred Prakash. Its technical team includes composer GV Prakash, cinematographer Theni Eswar, editor Sreejith Sarang, art director Mayapandi, and stunt director Dinesh Kasi. The film reunites GV Prakash with Dhanush after 2023's Vaathi, for which the composer won a National Award recently. It also brings the actor back together with his Karnan (2021) cinematographer, Theni Eswar.
In a recent conversation with Vikatan, the Kara director revealed that the movie is set against the backdrop of a war between the USA and Iraq in Ramanathapuram of the early 1990s. The film's tagline reads, "Sometimes staying dangerous is the only way to stay alive."
Also featuring Ishari K Ganesh's daughter, Kushmitha Ganesh, as a co-producer, Kara is slated for an April 30 release in theatres.
