April 26 marks actor-filmmaker Samuthirakani's birthday. The actor is reprising his role as Guna from Vetri Maaran's Vada Chennai in the filmmaker's upcoming film, Arasan. Set in a universe similar to the 2018 Dhanush starrer, the upcoming film from Vetri Maaran features actors Silambarasan and Vijay Sethupathi in key roles.
Earlier this Sunday, the makers of Arasan shared stills from the film's set, where the cast and crew can be seen celebrating Samuthirakani's birthday. In the pictures shared on social media, Samuthirakani can be seen alongside Silambarasan, Vetri Maaran and Andrea Jeremiah, among others. The pictures offer further confirmation of Andrea reprising her Vada Chennai role as Chandra in the upcoming film.
Earlier, Andrea virtually confirmed her comeback into the Vada Chennai universe with a role in the film. Besides, the makers of the film promised that the actor-filmmaker will deliver "a solid performance" in the film.
Production on Arasan has resumed following a temporary halt in it, as a long-standing dispute between Silambarasan and producer Ishari K Ganesh escalated. Further, Yogalakshmi of Tourist Family fame, Yogi Babu, and Dies Irae star Jibin Gopinath also star in the upcoming Vetri Maaran directorial venture.
The film has a screenplay that is the iteration of the script that Vetri Maaran originally wrote for Silambarasan when the actor was in line to star in Vada Chennai. The 2018 film underwent changes since then, with Dhanush going on to star in it. That said, Dhanush is not reprising his role as Anbu in the upcoming film.
