Actor-turned-politician Vijay faced his first Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections as a contender in the chief ministerial race on Thursday. The election commission had banned political campaigns 24 hours before the elections, setting the deadline for campaigning on April 21.
Vijay's last election rally happened at Nandanam in Chennai, where he gave his last shot at swaying people to vote for him. As a part of his speech, he told young children, "Dear children, for the sake of this 'Vijay mama', pester your parents to vote for me. Just as you pester them for chocolate." This statement made by the political leader was widely shared on social media.
Now, two days after the polls, a complaint has been reportedly filed against Vijay, the leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), at the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Office by VCK functionary Balakrishnan.
The complainant stated that, following Vijay's appeal to children, Balakrishnan's five-year-old son began insisting that the family vote for Vijay’s whistle symbol, causing him significant mental distress. He also claimed that his child has been psychologically affected and that similar issues have occurred in the families of his friends as well.
In the complaint petition, Balakrishnan has urged authorities to take legal action against Vijay for causing psychological distress.
Interestingly, a day after the elections, on Friday, Vijay thanked children once again on his X post for influencing the maximum voter turnout this year. For the unversed, Tamil Nadu recorded an 85% voter turnout this year, breaking records. Addressing the same as a part of a longer message, Vijay wrote, "My special greetings and thanks from me—your Vijay Mama—to my little friends who guided their family members."
