Actor Prithvi Pandiarajan has moved from one period setting to another since the 2024 sports drama Blue Star. While Blue Star (2024) was set in Arakkonam in the 90's, his latest release Parasakthi (2026), was set during the Anti-Hindi agitations of the 1960s. Now, he will be seen alongside Dhanush, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and KS Ravikumar in Kara, which is set in the early 90s in the Ramanathapuram (Ramnad) region of Tamil Nadu. Written and directed by Por Thozhil fame Vignesh Raja, the action drama is set to open in theatres on April 30.

In an interview with CE, Prithvi spoke about director Vignesh's vision for Kara, and said, "The director posed the question, 'What if we create a Hollywood style film in Ramnad?' But after working on the film, I believe that it has the potential to compete with the standards of those films."

"I am a big fan of Por Thozhil (2022). So when I arrived on the sets of Kara, I was prepared with my parts for the character. On set, he doesn't focus on the technical aspects, he just works with actors. Even before shooting starts he shoots a trail version of the scenes, in the manner it will be filmed during shooting, so when I came on set he helped me with my dialogues and my scenes," said Suraj, who added, "After he calls, 'Cut', he comes over to me and tells me that the shot was very good. In the moment where I revel in that compliment, is when he calls, 'One more!'"

Prithvi added, "He won't act a scene out himself, nor will he use some other actor as a reference. When conveying a direction for the scene, he will use previous takes as a reference." Suraj interjected by saying, "He continuously maintains the motivation and the feel for a situation, so that an actor is ready for the shot. That clarity helps, as I was simultaneously shooting for four films, Youth, Jailer 2, a film with Shivarajkumar, and Kara. So to step back into the shoes of my character, his way of maintaining that feel helped a lot."

A trailer for Kara which was released recently revealed that the film will be set during the same time as the Gulf War of 1991, which leads to a fuel crises in India. In the titular role, Dhanush is a desperate robber who has to navigate this crises, as he evades a cop Bharathan (Suraj Venjaramoodu), who is out to get him. Prithvi is playing the role of Murugesan, who is shown to be an associate of Dhanush in Kara.
