With Rajinikanth's next, Jailer 2, almost nearing completion, reports are rife that the Nelson directorial has already sealed a record OTT deal. Reportedly, Prime Video, which bagged the digital rights of Jailer, has also bought the rights of the sequel. While the former was reportedly sealed at Rs 100 crore, speculations suggest that the deal for Jailer 2 was for Rs 160 crore, creating a new record.

If reports are to be believed, this also becomes the most expensive OTT deal for a Tamil film so far. Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan was also reportedly sold only for Rs 125 crore, while Vijay's Leo came close with Rs 120 crore. Prime Video reportedly bought Rajinikanth's own Coolie for Rs 120 crore. However, these are only based on reports and are not verified by the makers of the film.

Jailer 2, which comes three years after Jailer, will see Rajinikanth reprising his role as 'Tiger' Muthuvel Pandian, alongside Ramya Krishnan, who plays his wife. The reprisal of Shivarajkumar's and Mohanlal's cameo appearances in the sequel has also been confirmed. Vinayakan will also be seen in the upcoming film, despite his character's demise in the 2023 film.

New names added to the ensemble this time around include Jatin Sarna, Mithun Chakraborty, Santhanam, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vijay Sethupathi, Meghana Raj Sarja and Anna Rajan. There is also buzz about the appearance of Nora Fatehi in a dance number.

Plot details of the film are currently under wraps. Jailer 2 is produced by Kalanithi Maran under his Sun Pictures banner. On the technical front, the film has music by Anirudh. The first film's technical team members, such as cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan and editor R Nirmal, are also coming back for the sequel.

While Rajinikanth earlier said that the film is scheduled for release on June 12, the film may now be postponed to August, as per reports.
