Y Gee Mahendra-Suresh Krissna's Charukesi gets release date

Charukesi also stars Suhasini Maniratnam, Sathyaraj, Raj Ayyappa, Ramya Pandian, and Samuthirakani, among others

Y Gee Mahendra is a veteran Carnatic musician whose Alzheimer's and prodigal son are some of the many challenges he faces in the teaser of Charukesi. The teaser was unveiled on Tuesday along with the announcement that the film is scheduled for release on May 8.

The teaser shows the actor as the titular character, a legendary Carnatic vocalist, challenged by his son's lifestyle and life partner choices. He is advised by a stranger, played by Sathyaraj, on how to build an enduring legacy. The film is adapted for the screen by director Suresh Krissna from Y Gee Mahendra's popular stage play of the same name.

The star cast of Charukesi includes Samuthirakani, Suhasini Maniratnam, Ramya Pandiyan, Raj Ayyappa, Jayaprakash, Thalaivaasal Vijay, Sai Dheena and YG Madhuvanthi. Produced by R Arun, the film is made under the Suresh Krissna Productions Private Limited, Arun Visualz and Madras Cine Production banners.

The makers have roped in Deva as the music composer, Pa Vijay for dialogues and lyrics, Sanjay for cinematography, Richard for editing and Shankar Mahadevan for vocals. The film will be based on the story penned by Venkat and the screenplay by Suresh Krissna.

Suresh Krissna is known for his stellar works such as Sathya, Annamalai and Baasha.
