Recently, we reported that writer-director Saran's 1999 film Amarkalam, starring Ajith Kumar and Shalini, will release again in theatres this year. Earlier this Saturday, it was revealed that it will hit the cinemas again on April 24, Friday.

Amarkalam is the 25th project in Ajith's career and the only film to star him alongside his wife Shalini. The actors fell in love during the production of the film before they tied the knot in April 2000 in Chennai. Shalini quit acting shortly following her marriage with Ajith.

Amarkalam follows Vasu (Ajith), a hooligan who kidnaps a police commissioner's (Nasser) daughter, Mohana (Shalini), to settle an old score with him. Vasu treats Mohana in a hostile manner at first, but the two form a genuine affection for each other over time, which plays a part in his transformation. What happens afterwards forms the crux of the story.

The film also stars Raghuvaran, Radhika, Ambika, Vinu Chakravarthy, Charlie, Ramesh Khanna, Vaiyapuri, Poovilangu Mohan, and Dhamu, among others. Its technical team includes composer Bharadwaj, cinematographer A Venkatesh, and editor Suresh Urs.

This is the second Ajith film to release again in theatres this year. Recently, his action thriller Mankatha, directed by Venkat Prabhu and co-starring Arjun and Trisha, also had a rerelease.

Ajith was last seen in Good Bad Ugly, director Adhik Ravichandran's mad cap action comedy. He is set to reunite with Adhik on another project soon.
