After a wave of backlash against certain groups of people for indulging in piracy to illegally release Vijay's upcoming film Jana Nayagan, the Tamil Film Active Producers Association (TFAPA) has now expressed their "shock" and "anguish" on the film's leak. Condemning the incident, the council said the incident has "severely affected the earning potential of the film."

"We as a community of Producers are threatened by such acts by anti-social elements, who have no concern for the Producer who produced the film and the team who made the film with lot of passion," they wrote.

Further, they requested the Information & Broadcasting Ministry and the government of Tamil Nadu to take suo motu action against the issue and remove all the content "on war footing" to "save Tamil Cinema."

"We also urge Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to immediately investigate the people behind the leak of the film illegally and take strong action under The Cinematograph (Amendment) Act 2023, to curb piracy and prevent such activities," they added.

The council extended their support to the makers of Jana Nayagan, Vijay and H Vinoth, along with the cast and crew and stated that the recent incident "is warning to the entire film industry." "If sufficient controls are not put in and the content is protected adequately, this is what can happen to a film, when it lands in the hands of rogues and anti-social elements, who are associated with the film industry. We should find and eliminate those elements to save Tamil Cinema," they noted, urging audiences and social media users to not share the film's clippings and remove whatever has been posted.

Earlier in the day, several actors and film industry professionals including Sivakarthikeyan, GV Prakash, Vijay Antony, Shanthnu, Khushbu Sundar, Sibi Sathyaraj, producer Suresh Kamatchi, G Dhananjheyan and others voiced their concern on piracy and urged people to respect filmmakers and the hard work that goes behind making films.
